Request support

The know-how and experience of BRS is situated mainly in the area of microfinancing and insurances in developing countries. Undoubtedly, every new initiative taken in the South is worthwhile and meaningful. However, BRS limits its support to those projects where, with its expertise, it is able to offer the best help, namely microfinancing. Therefore, BRS has established a number of criteria to determine which projects are eligible for support and which are not.

BRS can consider a support request if a project meets ALL of the following criteria:

• oriented towards the microfinancing sector: savings, credit provision and/or insurance,
• minimum three years of experience,
• a minimum operational independence of 70%,
• a cooperative character with particular attention for the involvement of the target group in the policy and the working of the MFI,
• geographically limited to developing countries in Africa or Latin America,
• have a clear policy for growth towards independence,
• collaborate with a Belgian or international NGO which is responsible for the daily monitoring of the organisation.
